CoFA Medallion

The Ohio University College of Fine Arts medallion was designed to represent a synthesis of the state of Ohio and classical Greek art. The acanthus leaf—which was a common motif in Greek design and is said to represent long life—sits as the foundation of the medallion bringing together the elements within the design. In the background lies the rolling hills and sun that are an interpretation of the seal of Ohio. The detailed pattern that forms the sun represents the geometric patterns found in classical Greek art.
